I am one of new comer from Nanking ,and happy to join into this group with haspitality and enthusiasm. yes, you are right , since here was the capital of china as it was repblic of China , for exmaple beijing was spoken as Peking, so Nanjing was spkoen as Nanking.

Beijing or Peking is commonly used. But in my eyes, Nanking was offen used in the period of the Republic of China.
